A Doctor Who flashcast by the people who brought you Flight Through Entirety.

About this podcast

Sunday 23 September 2018

It’s the day of Nathan’s wedding — and so he has only two things to think about: getting married, and releasing Episode 136 of Flight Through Entirety, both of which will be taking place at exactly the same time.

In just over two weeks, on 7 October 2018, Jodie Whittaker will be taking over as the new Doctor Who. This isn’t our first new Doctor Who at Flight Through Entirety: the Capaldi announcement was on 4 August 2013, but by that time we had only released six episodes of Flight Through Entirety. Back then, we had no idea that the podcast would become a thing, that we would launch a second one covering the James Bond films, and that one day we would be at Nathan’s wedding, watching him check his phone to make sure that WordPress had successfully released this week’s new episode of FTE.

Now the reason that Flight Through Entirety exists is that we can’t all get together without talking about Doctor Who, and so of course we ended up talking about the new Doctor. We were excited. Peter had gone, Moffat had gone, and after a break of a few months it seemed like something new and fresh was on its way.

Someone — their identity now lost in the mists of time — suggested that we should post our reactions to each episode of this exciting new era. Just a phone call, a couple of days after each episode aired, nothing too complex or formal, nothing that would tread on Flight Through Entirety’s toes. A flashcast, like they do on The Incomparable.

And just a week later, someone else came up with the flashcast’s inevitable title: Jodie into Terror, named after the episode after the episode that had inspired Brendan to call his first podcast Flight Through Entirety.

Tempus fugit, as a wise Scotsman once said. Jodie’s last Doctor Who episode was broadcast on 23 October 2022 and the last episode of Jodie into Terror was broadcast just two days later. Nowadays, we release our hot takes on a different flashcast, The Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire, but who knows when we’ll even get the chance to release another episode?

But in the meantime, there’s Jodie into Terror. I don’t think any of us would say that this is our favourite era. But each week, we tried to find the good in it, as well as things to laugh at or things to laugh with or things to rant about.

We had fun. And now we want to know what happens next.
